[UPDATED]-Duterte sent three of his diplomats to Saudi Oger bringing with them P500 million in aid in Friday.
The team was composed of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvertre Bello III, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) chief Guiling Mamondiong, and John Bertiz, Acts-OFW partylist Congressman.
The Department of Foreign Affairs in its report said that there are at least 11,000 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who are not paid for at least 2 to 6 months in several large Saudi construction companies.
The company Saudi Oger Ltd has a total of 8,757 Filipino contractors, according to the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO). The company suffered major losses due to alleged corruption and mismanagement resulting in non –payment of its workers.
In Jeddah, a total of 1,407 overseas Filipino is working in the construction division and another 1,667 in the maintenance department who have job contracts with Saudi Oger Ltd according to POLO.
An OFW will receive a total of P26, 000 where the P6, 000 will be given to his family back in the Philippines.
Bello asked the OFWs about their current state as well as trying to give a clear message to the personnel in the embassy to take care of the “heroes”[OFW].
The secretary said that he was sent to deliver the “sincere thanks of the president”, adding that the ofw, “landslide vote gave the president’s victory”.
TESDA exec Mamondiong for his part said that no OFW returns without a job and that livelihood and micro-business will be given to the returning expat.
The special envoys also promised to help the children of the OFW on their education back home.
Duterte Middle East Movement secretary Saidali Malic expresses her happiness on behalf of the Filipino expat community who are waiting for the aid in a face-to-face dialogue with the diplomats.
Malic was quoted saying, “The reaction of OFWs could have been described as the best gift and a miracle that ever happened to them in their history as expatriates, when they received DOLE Secretary Bello together during the face-to-face dialogue with the Saudi Oger workers and Filipino community leaders, held at their camps.”
According to dZMM report, Labor Secretary Bello, prior to his flight in Thursday, already sacked two labor attachès in Saudi for failing to do their duties.
