Cebu, PHILIPPINES – President Rodrigo Duterte jilted high profile inmate Jaybee Sebastian’s request to meet him to divulge everything he knows about the illegal drug trade in the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) early Friday.
“I do not talk to criminals,” Duterte’s response to one of the questions at a conference in Davao City following his two-day working visit to Vietnam.
Duterte added that, “he can go to the fiscal if he wants or maybe write a letter to Secretary Yasay if that is feasible.”
Jaybee Sebastian’s lawyer Eduardo Arriba told CNN Philippines on Thursday in a phone call interview that his client holds a substantial information that he only wanted to disclose to PRRD.
“The information he’ll share with the President is very important, comprehensive, and in so far as evidence is concerned, very conclusive.” Arriba said.
His testimony would involve past and present administration high official thus putting Sebastian’s life in peril according to Arriba’s statement.
But the President said that drug criminals “asked for it” so “it will come.”
“Be careful of what you wish for or what you want, because you might get it,” PRRD further added. “There is always the comeuppance and the law of karma that is a valid universal statement.”
Sebastian, who is currently recovering from a stabbing incident inside the NBP was tagged in the congressional hearing on the proliferation of drugs in the said penitentiary during the time of former Justice Secretary now Senator Leila de Lima.
