Iligan,Philippines -Two weeks the former Vice President of the Philippines Jejomar ”Jojo” Binay losses his immunity in cases, the Office of the Ombudsman filed charges at the Sandiganbayan yesterday.
The Ombudsman filed 14 cases against Binay around 8:00am Thursday in connection to the alleged P2.28 Billion Makati Parking Building II, which he started in 2007 and was continued by his son former Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay.
The older Binay faces ten counts of Falsification of Public Documents, one count of Malversation of Public funds, and three counts of graft in violation to RA 3019 or Anti-graft and corrupt practices Act.
According to the Ombudsman, Binay violated the Government Procurement Act and its Implementing Rules and Regulation by awarding the contract to MANA Architectural and Interior Design and Co., in spite of the imperfections of the acquisition process.
Junjun Binay faces one count of Malversation of Public funds and two counts of violation to Anti-graft and corrupt practices Act.
Binay spokesperson Joey Salgado told the media that the charges being filed against the former vice president were merely a diversionary tactic to derail the public from the indictment of several Liberal Party’s official whom being cuddled by the Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, who has been a top critic of the former vice president was quoted saying “Finally! This proves that the Senate investigations, we conducted against him weren’t just political.”
The Ombudsman was also set to study the filing of a plunder case over the alleged overpricing in the contracts.
